Augusta's New Bus Route Will Connect Downtown With Major Shopping Areas (ultimatemaine.com) — Augusta is preparing to launch a four‑month pilot bus route linking downtown Water Street with major shopping areas along Western Avenue, with fares expected around $1 to $2. The 12‑passenger bus will run an hourly loop, with limited flexibility to deviate for pickups, funded partly by proceeds from selling the former police station. If successful, more routes and longer service could follow in 2027.
2. Attorney General's Report on the Use of Deadly Force: Augusta, December 14, 2025 (maine.gov) — Maine's Attorney General has ruled that Kennebec County deputies acted in self-defense when they shot a wanted man at the end of a high-speed chase that finished on Allen Street in Augusta. The detailed report describes earlier threats, shots fired during the pursuit toward Augusta, and concludes the deputies reasonably believed their lives were in immediate danger.
3. Fairfield man accused of shooting at CMP substations released from federal custody (newscentermaine.com) — A Fairfield man accused of shooting at three Central Maine Power substations, including one in Augusta, has been released from federal custody while awaiting trial. Prosecutors say the February attack on facilities in Winslow, Windsor, and Augusta caused over $100,000 in damage at each site and briefly cut power to more than 10,000 customers. Welch has pleaded not guilty to federal charges.
4. Mainer details what he saw at Ground Zero on September 11, 2001 (wmtw.com) — From Augusta, a former federal firefighter from Winter Harbor is sharing what he witnessed while volunteering at Ground Zero in the days after 9/11, describing both the devastation and the unity he saw. His reflections, 25 years later, highlight the emotional toll of those memories and the way people across the country, including Mainers, came together to help.
