Chelsea School Locked Down After Shots Fired: Police

Douglas Burl fired his rifle at a neighbor, forcing a lockdown at Chelsea Elementary School, police said.

CHELSEA, ME β€” A Chelsea man was arrested Thursday morning after police said he fired his rifle five times at a neighbor. Douglas Burl, 54, of Brook Lane, was charged with reckless conduct and criminal threatening. The neighbor was not hurt, according to Maine State Police.

The shooting happened at about 10 a.m. when school was in session at nearby Chelsea Elementary School, located about a quarter-mile away. The school was placed in lockdown for about a half-hour as a precaution.

The man who Burl shot at was driving by Burl's residence at the time of the shooting, police said. The man was not hurt.
