Maine Gov. Janet Mills Tests Positive For COVID-19

AUGUSTA, ME — Gov. Janet Mills has tested positive for COVID-19, her office announced Thursday.

Mills tested positive via a rapid test after developing a mild scratchy throat, her office said. She has no other symptoms.

"This is a good reminder that even though we may want to be done with COVID, it’s not necessarily done with us," the Democratic governor said in a statement. "I'm grateful for the strong protection that the vaccine has provided me, which I believe is one of the reasons why I am still feeling well."

According to the governor's office, Mills is isolating and working from home while following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines. The governor was also given Paxlovid, an oral antiviral drug taken to prevent severe COVID-19 symptoms.

Mills said she will continue to monitor her symptoms. She also urged other Mainers to get vaccinated.

"I look forward to getting back out when I can and enjoying all that a beautiful Maine spring has to offer," Mills said.
