Maine Heroin/Cocaine Bust: 5 Arrested

Five people were recently arrested in a drug raid in Sullivan.

SULLIVAN, ME β€” Five people were arrested in a recent drug raid in Sullivan, according to the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency. Two of the suspects are from the Bronx, New York; the other three are from Sullivan and Gouldsboro.

The DEA said agents launched an investigation into heroin and crack cocaine distribution at a residence at 190 Taunton Drive in Sullivan and obtained a search warrant. On February 21, agents raided the residence and said they found evidence of a heroin and crack cocaine dealing, along with $6,300 in drug profits.

  • Christopher Cruz, 28, of the Bronx, New York, was charged with conspiracy to traffic heroin and crack cocaine.
  • Kevin Barner, 51, of the Bronx, New York, was charged with conspiracy to traffic heroin and crack cocaine.
  • Sherman Merchant, 32, of Gouldsboro, was arrested on three warrants.
  • Jade Giger, 30, of Gouldsboro, Maine, was charged with violating conditions of release.
  • Matthew Leise, 39, of Sullivan, arrested on a warrant.

The DEA said the raid was "part of continuing efforts focused on the growing presence of out of state drug traffickers selling heroin and 'crack' cocaine in Hancock County." Officials said they anticipate making more arrests in connection with this case.
