Maine Snowmobiler Killed In Crash

NEWPORT, ME β€” An Etna man was killed in a snowmobile crash in Newport Saturday. Jack McKay, 36, was snowmobiling with a group of friends on Interconnecting Trail System 85 early in the morning when he failed to negotiate a corner and hit a tree, police said.

Another snowmobiler in the group, Cain Mackenzie, 36, of Plymouth, was charged with driving a snowmobile under the influence.

Police said they're investigating the possibility alcohol and speed contributed to the crash.

It was Maine's sixth snowmobile-related death this winter.

"Game wardens urge all riders to ride responsibly and never drink and drive," police said in a statement.
