Welcome Weekend at Husson University

WHO:

On Saturday, August 28, 2021, Husson University welcomed first-year students back to campus for the beginning of the new academic year. Returning students moved into the residence halls on the following day. (Sunday, August 29, 2021)

Husson University has approximately 2,870 undergraduate students and over 700 graduate students.

WHAT:

A variety of activities took place on Saturday, August 28 and Sunday, August 29, 2021.

Saturday, August 28

• 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.: New Resident Student Drive-Up Check-In on College Circle Drive, near the Wildey Communications Center, the home of the New England School of Communications (NESCom). All new students checked in at this location before heading to the residence halls.
• 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.: The Husson University Bookstore was open in Peabody Hall. Students were able to purchase textbooks and Husson swag.
• 11:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m.: Legacy scholarship reception in the Alumni Lounge and Darling Atrium in the Beardsley Meeting House. The event celebrated first-year legacy scholarship recipients and their families.
• 1:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.: There was a new commuter student check-in and information session in the Libra Lecture Hall in the O’Donnell Commons building. All commuter students had the opportunity to check-in and learn more about commuter student services at this event.
• 1:30 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.: Students said good-bye to visiting family and friends.
• 2:00 p.m. - 2:45 p.m.: New Student Convocation took place at the Newman Gymnasium. Our annual fall convocation ceremony formally marks the beginning of the academic year.
• 3:00 p.m. - 3:50 p.m.: First year students attended their first class of the semester. The class was called “HE 111 - Husson Experience” and was a mandatory class meeting for all incoming first-year students. Locations varied and were posted in all check-in areas, Residence Hall lobbies and the Center for Student Success at 208 Peabody Hall.
• 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.: First-year students met their resident assistants (RAs) and residence hall floor mates over dinner at the Dickerman Dining Center.
• 7:00 p.m.: For those who couldn’t meet their RAs over dinner, there was a residence hall floor meeting with the RAs after dinner.
• 7:30 p.m.: Free ice cream was available to all incoming students in the Carlisle Hall and Hart Hall courtyard.
• 8:00 p.m.: Students enjoyed a free outdoor screening of the movie: “Black Panther” in the Carlisle Hall & Hart Hall courtyard.

Sunday, August 29

• 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.: Returning students checked-in at their residence halls.
• 10:00 a.m. –12:30 p.m.: Brunch was served at the Dickerman Dining Center.
• 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.: Students enjoyed a rousing game of cornhole at “Cornhole Court” located between Bell Hall and Harold Alfond Hall, the new home of Husson University’s College of Business.
• 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.: The Husson University Bookstore was again open in Peabody Hall. Students were able to purchase textbooks and Husson swag.
• 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.: Students enjoyed outdoor inflatables by the tennis courts across from the Newman Gymnasium.
• 8:00 p.m. Comic and magician Derek Hughes performed at the Gracie Theatre.

The University required all students, faculty and staff to be vaccinated for COVID-19 or have an approved exemption prior to arriving on campus for Fall 2021 semester. All individuals were required to wear masks while they were indoors in the residence halls on campus during the move-in process. In addition, all students provided with a pre-scheduled, one-hour, move-in time to minimize contact with others.

Welcome Weekend consisted of two days of activities, events and fun at the beginning of the new school year. It was designed to help students feel comfortable on campus. University offices were also open on those days to assist students with any last minute issues.
