With two sites planned in the city and streamlined subdivision requirements, construction may move quickly, with the first homes possibly available by early next spring.
2. Ellsworth picks 3 adult-use cannabis vendors nearly 2 years after voter approval (bangordailynews.com) — Ellsworth is moving toward opening three adult-use cannabis shops along High Street after a lottery selected JAR Cannabis and Lighthouse Cannabis for conditional approval. City officials are finalizing regulations, debating license caps and a $10,000 fee, while a separate lawsuit over a denied Main Street cannabis license continues in Hancock County court.
3. MaineHousing awards record $2.7 million for winter warming shelters (wabi.tv) — Ellsworth residents facing winter hardship will see added support as Healthy Acadia in Ellsworth receives $263,025 to provide 35 heated overnight beds through April. The funding is part of a record $2.7 million MaineHousing investment that expands short-term warming shelters across the state for unsheltered people during the coldest months.
4. MaineDOT to temporarily close Seawall Road in Southwest Harbor (foxbangor.com) — Drivers from Ellsworth heading to Southwest Harbor should plan for Seawall Road on Route 102A to close for up to 28 days starting October 5 for storm-resilience upgrades. An Ellsworth-based contractor will install new shoreline protections and a culvert, with work expected to wrap up by October 30 and detours clearly signed.
