• Hannaford partners with Wolfe's Neck to invest in local farms (wmtw.com) — A new Hannaford partnership with Wolfe's Neck Center in Freeport will channel grants and technical help to hundreds of regional farmers, aiming to strengthen soil health and climate resilience. The program, running through 2028, focuses on supporting regenerative agriculture and expanding markets for locally grown products that could benefit both Freeport-area farms and shoppers.
• Invasive green crabs are bad for the environment so New Englanders are starting to eat more of them (sandiegouniontribune.com) — Invasive green crabs are threatening shellfish beds, including clamming areas on Freeport's Harraseeket River, where digger Chad Coffin is already seeing big declines. Scientists and small businesses across New England are experimenting with turning the crabs into food products, hoping that eating more of them can protect local ecosystems and shellfish livelihoods.
