1. Jay wrapping up makeover of tennis courts named for El Faro crew member (sunjournal.com) — Jay residents will soon have access to three new Hollandstrong tennis courts next to Spruce Mountain Elementary School, with a public ribbon-cutting set for October 19. Funded through grants, donations, and town support, the project replaces deteriorated courts and adds lighting, walkways, and new fencing. RSU 73 will decide the official opening date and usage rules for the public.
2. Maine Police Seek Man Accused Of Vehicle Theft in Jay (z1073.com) — Police in Jay are searching for 43-year-old Craig Tracy, who is accused of stealing vehicles, ramming a police cruiser, and fleeing on foot after incidents around East Jay Road and Warren Hill Road. Authorities say he is considered armed and dangerous and may be linked to a light blue Audi hatchback. Residents in and around Jay are urged to lock homes and vehicles and call 911 with any sightings.
3. 'Super oversize' load to be convoyed from Jay to South Portland this week (pressherald.com) — A massive "super oversize" load will roll out of Jay around 6 p.m. Tuesday, potentially slowing traffic on Riley Road, Crash Road, Route 4, and other major routes as it heads toward South Portland. Escorted by police and utility crews, the 220-foot-long convoy will trigger rolling closures and parking restrictions along its path. Drivers in and around Jay are urged to seek alternate routes.
4. Berwick police report rise in vehicle burglaries (newscentermaine.com) — Police in Jay are searching for a suspect after several vehicles were reportedly stolen Saturday, part of a broader spike in car burglaries also affecting Berwick. Residents are urged to lock vehicles, remove valuables, and park in well-lit areas to avoid these crimes of opportunity.
