UMaine-led team uses AI to strengthen electric grids against cyberattacks and extreme weather (dailybulldog.com) — UMaine researchers in Orono are leading a $2.4 million federal project to use artificial intelligence and cybersecurity tools to make electric grids more resilient to cyberattacks and extreme weather. Working with universities in Hawaii, North Dakota and Puerto Rico, the team will test smart, self-healing grid technologies and train students, aiming to improve power reliability in vulnerable communities nationwide.

Graduate applicants are directed to submit documents electronically or by mail to UMaine's Graduate School in Orono. 3. 3D-printed boat advances future of maritime manufacturing (techxplore.com) — UMaine's Advanced Structures and Composites Center in Orono has launched a 30-foot, 3D-printed high-performance boat that could transform how commercial and defense vessels are built. The 3Dirigo X project speeds production, cuts mold costs, and gives students hands-on experience as the university prepares its new Factory of the Future facility.
   

4. What used to be one of Maine's smallest universities has seen the biggest increase in students (bangordailynews.com) — Enrollment across Maine's public universities is climbing, but the University of Maine in Orono, combined with Machias, has actually seen a 6.3% enrollment drop since 2022. The biggest surge is at UMaine Presque Isle, driven by its online YourPace program for adult learners. System leaders say flexible, lower-cost online options and early college credits aim to strengthen Maine's workforce.
