The Actor’s Intensive Workshop comes to Portland

Portland, Maine - Saturday June 29 is the date set for The Actor’s Intensive at Portland Stage | Theatre of Maine. The workshop features an all-day opportunity for actors to learn about the business side of acting from former New York agent Rozanne Gates (clients whose careers she started and maintained included Edward Norton, William H. Macy, Chris Noth, Rainn Wilson, Joe Mantegna, Lynne Thigpen plus others). Actors will also get a professional, industrystandard headshot from actor’s headshot photographer Suzanne Sheridan. The Actor’s Intensive Workshop is intended to attract actors who are serious about creating and maintaining a successful career in film, television, andtheatre.

Gates, author of “How to Succeed in the Business of Show Business – or everything they don’t tell you in acting school but I will” says, “In my experience as an actor’s agent, I can tell you that having or not having talent never stopped a career, but lacking knowledge of the business did. How the actor functions in the structure of the business can make or break a career. Many actors have not been exposed to this knowledge or have spent the years knocking on doors to get it. This course offers a lifetime of experience in a day and will give actors the opportunity to gain insider information on how to succeed in the business of show business."

She went on to add, “The workshop includes a headshot. Most headshot photographers in New York charge $800 and more for a 1-look headshot. Industry-standard headshots do not come cheap, nor should they. They are an essential key to landing jobs. Most actors are scared about entering the business because of what they don’t know, not what they do know. To have access to my expertise has caused actors to have success. I have been told this by many actors who have read my book, followed my advice, and gone on to have successful careers. My clients were nominated for or won Oscars, Emmys, and Tonys. I know the business as well as anyone who has ever entered the profession. Those attending the all-day workshop, organized by Olivia Vega of livforevents.com, will have the opportunity to be photographed by actor’s headshot photographer, Suzanne Sheridan. Known for her ability to produce industry standard headshots that get the attention of agents, Sheridan has had many clients who have actually gotten cast in films and television based on their headshot.

Gates will be available to attendees who want to have a one to one consultation in addition to leading the workshop/classroom in “The Business of Acting.” She has taught “The Business of Acting” at several universities including Columbia University, SUNY-Purchase, Stella Adler School of Tisch/NYU, Central Connecticut State University, Rutgers, UConn, and the University of Nebraska.
