Fire on Portland Pier mopped up quickly (pressherald.com subscription) — A roof fire at an unoccupied residence at 39 Portland Pier drew an all-hands response from Portland firefighters Wednesday night, but was quickly contained without injuries. Crews initially headed toward nearby J's Oyster after an address mix-up, then cleared the scene by about 9:45 p.m., with investigators returning Thursday to determine what sparked the blaze.

New report finds little short-term health risk from air pollutants in South Portland, Portland (newscentermaine.com) — Air monitoring in Portland and South Portland over six years found no short-term health risks from volatile organic compounds, though two chemicals still warrant long-term attention. For Portland residents, the key takeaway is that day-to-day air quality appears safe, but acrolein and benzene levels will continue to be monitored, with state officials presenting detailed findings at an October 27 city council meeting.
3. This Charming Coastal City Was Just Named the 'Most Walkable in America' (housebeautiful.com) — Portland has just been named the most walkable city in America, highlighting the everyday benefits of getting around town on foot or by bike. The piece spotlights local favorites like the Harborwalk Trail, historic neighborhoods, and nearby Bradbury Mountain, framing the city as a wellness-focused place to live or visit. 4.
