Council’s Charter Commission Ad Hoc Committee Advances Slate Of Council Appointees In City Of Portland

The Ad Hoc Committee asked members of the public to apply to be considered as one of the three Council appointees.

After receiving 39 applications, and interviewing 20 people, the City Council’s newly created Charter Commission Ad Hoc Committee advanced a slate of recommendations for the Council appointees to the Charter Commission. The full Council will take action on this item during a Monday, August 10 meeting at 5:30 PM.

The Ad Hoc Committee members include Mayor Snyder, Councilor Nick Mavodones, Councilor Pious Ali, and Councilor Tae Chong. The Committee is advancing Peter Eglinton, Michael Kebede, and Dory Waxman as the slate of three appointed members to serve on the upcoming Charter Commission.

The City Council must appoint these members by August 14th as it is required to appoint them 30 days from the date of the vote in favor of creating a Charter Commission. The full Council also needs to decide the method of voting which will determine the number of Charter Commission members to be elected by the public, who will serve alongside those who have been appointed by the Council.
