The Maine Art Museum Trail
If you an art-lover, you’ve likely heard of the Maine Art Museum Trail. Stretching from Ogunquit to Bangor, the trail is over 200 miles long and comprised of nine of the best art museums in Maine. Throughout the nine destinations, you’ll find over 73,000 works of arts. Three colleges are included as part of the tour: The Bowdoin College Museum of Art, the Bates College Museum of Art, and the Colby College Museum of Art.

You’ll find masterpieces that were created right here in Maine by artists like Louise Nevelson, Andrew Wyeth, Rockwell Kent, George Bellows, Marsden Hartley, Robert Indiana, and Winslow Homer, as well as pieces created by artists around the world. The collections at the museums include art ranging from ancient times until now. There’s no right way to enjoy the trail: choose a destination or two to visit or make an entire vacation out of the museum trail— it’s up to you!

If you’re a fan of performing arts, there are numerous destinations in Maine that you should add to your list to visit. Operating since 1901, Lakewood Theater is the “longest-running summer theater in the nation” and a must-see attraction for all art-lovers. The Ogunquit Playhouse is another renowned theater where you catch a world-class performance with your whole family.
You can also check out the Bangor Symphony Orchestra, one of the US’s oldest orchestras, or attend a show by the Portland Ballet. There are also a variety of festivals that take place in Maine, including the internationally-acclaimed Bates Dance Festival and the North Atlantic Blues Festival.
