Garbage in, garbage out

Recycling ain't what it's cracked up to be.

A companyhat provided curbside pick-up of food scraps in southern Maine has dropped the service.

Customers will now have to bring their own garbage to the dump.

We Compost It!, which has some of the same ownership as CPRC, the Scarborough-based company that operates the transfer station at Kennebunk Public Services, is suspending its curbside collection of food waste in Kennebunk, Portland and other communities.

It said it can't find enough people to do the job.

The company turns the garbage – vegetable trimmings, peels, bones,and more – into compost.
