Aberdeen High Locked Down Twice in Feburary

The school was locked down Friday, with an increased police presence.

Aberdeen High School was locked down twice in the last two weeks after separate threats were made, a Harford County Public Schools spokesperson confirmed to Patch Wednesday.

A direct threat from one student to another caused a brief lockdown on Feb. 8. The school was locked down Feb. 17 after an unspecified threat was made to the school's main office, according to Harford County Public Schools Manager of Communications Teri Kranefeld.

Kranefeld told Patch in an email, "The Aberdeen Police Department and the HCPS Safety and Security Office were immediately notified. Per the school’s Critical Incident Plan and on the advice of authorities, the building was placed on lockdown. As a precaution, faculty members were advised to remain vigilant and present in hallways and stairwells during the exchange of classes. An increased police presence was seen throughout the day and during dismissal."

Kranefeld explained in an email to Patch: "The school resource [officer] was informed of the message and met the student at the door that morning upon arrival at school. The student has been charged and appropriate disciplinary action has been taken. As a precaution, the school was placed on a modified lockdown until the situation was resolved."
