Aberdeen Youths Charged With Mugging

Aberdeen police say they have arrested three juveniles who tried to steal an elderly woman's purse.

Two teens and a 12-year-old have been arrested and charged with trying to steal an elderly Churchville woman's purse last month, police said Tuesday.

All three males, from Aberdeen, face assault and other related charges, police spokesman Lt. Fred Budnick said in a prepared statement.

“Arrested were a 12-year-old, a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old,” Budnick said. “The victim, a 73-year-old from Churchville, was not injured in the assault.”

Authorities say the three youths attacked the woman about 9:30 p.m. April 21 as she left an establishment in the 1000 block of Beards Hill Road. The woman immediately called authorities after the attack, police said.

"With the assistance of some surveillance tapes, investigators were able to identify and arrest three juveniles," Budnick said. “They have been released to their parents pending trial.”
