Aberdeen 'Fairy Godmothers' to Give Away 500 Prom Dresses

The Aberdeen Lioness Lions Club offers to dress girls for prom night, for free.

Community service is the fabric that makes up the Aberdeen Lioness Lions Club. Sometimes that means adopting a road, sponsoring a family or sending care packages to troops.

In March, things get a bit more whimsical as the group members take on the role of fairy godmothers, ensuring all girls in the area have the perfect dress for the prom.

So far, the group has collected more than 500 dresses for this year's prom dress giveaway event, which the group calls Cinderella's Closet.

"These fairy godmothers know that every girl, no matter how economically challenged, deserves a chance to dance with her prince at the prom," the Lionesses posted on Facebook.

The Cinderella's Closet giveaway takes place at the end of the month, and dresses are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Girls must show identification to be eligible for a dress.
