The City of Aberdeen is excited to partner with BGE to make a positive impact in the community! BGE started installing Smart Lighting Controls on streetlights around Aberdeen in October. Field crews have already deployed more than 700 controls, with a target to complete nearly 2,000 by the end of November. Once installed, Aberdeen will be the first fully Smart city in BGE’s service territory that will have this new capability. These smart controls enable real-time monitoring of streetlight health allowing for faster outage response and resolution. That means BGE will be able to proactively address streetlight issues without relying on reporting by residents. In addition, triaging issues through remote monitoring will reduce the amount of trips needed to diagnose and repair issues, thereby, reducing costs and greenhouse gas emissions. All these features help bring about the most important benefit for our community – safety. You can help BGE and the community by reporting any LED lights that appear to be turning blue or purple. The change in color is caused by an LED defect that has been reported across the country. While they may add a touch of purple to the City, we encourage you to report these streetlights online so they can be replaced as new fixtures are available. The purple lights and other streetlight related issues can be reported here: Report a Street Light Outage (streetlightoutages.com) Please use the comments field to indicate blue/purple light.
