Edgewood Man Sentenced for Sexually Assaulting Minor

Marc Edward Travers gets 20 years, but will only have to serve six years and six months of the sentence.

An Edgewood man has been sentenced in connection with a sexual assault against an Aberdeen minor, police said on Monday.

Marc Edward Travers, 28, was sentenced to 20 years in prison on Thursday during a hearing at the Harford County Circuit Court, authorities said. Travers pleaded guilty to a single count of sexual assault of a minor, authorities said.

The judge suspended nearly 14 years of the sentence, meaning Travers will serve six years and six months in prison.

Travers was arrested by Aberdeen police on Feb. 4, after being reported for child abuse, according to a prepared statement released by the Aberdeen Police Department.

"Travers was a friend of the victim's family at the time of his arrest," Lt. Fred Budnick said in the statement.
