Teens to 'Kick up Heels' at STEM Workshop for Girls

Dozens of high school girls who scored high enough to land entry to Harford County's elite Science and Math Academy at Aberdeen High School will mingle and be mentored by some of the Mid-Atlantic area's top women in science and technology in an all-day workshop.  Sponsored by Dr. Melanie Will-Cole, an Army Research Laboratory Fellow who, as a senior researcher at Aberdeen Proving Ground, invented technology that lets soldiers better transmit secure video, audio, navigation and radar information in war zones, the workshop will bring together women - diverse in science, technology, engineering and math fields as well as ethnicity - in a candid discussion with teenage girls to confront trends of women in STEM and help them navigate obstacles and opportunities in college and careers.
