Harford County Police Event Promotes Safety

Community members gathered at Harford County's Public Safety Awareness Night.

Community members gathered at the Target in Aberdeen to learn about crime prevention and public safety at Harford County Public Safety Awareness Night on Friday. 

Harford County Sheriff's Office sponsored the event, with car seat checks, a police K-9 demonstration and bike rodeo for kids. 

Sgt. Robert Severn of the said the event's goal was to make the public more aware of the services the police department can offer.

"There's more to policing than just locking people up," Severn said. "There's a lot of community involvement." 

Aberdeen Proving Grounds Emergency Center demonstrated home readiness programs to visitors.

"[We're] encouraging people to be ready for a natural disaster," said Pedro Rodriguez of the Emergency Operation Center. 

Aberdeen and Havre de Grace police departments handed out health and crime prevention pamphlets, while several officers fell subject to the "Dunk-a-Cop" booth. 

"We want to let them know that their police are out there for them," Severn said.
