Maryland Flags at Half-Mast for Fallen Perryville Officer

In honor of fire police officer David Barr, Maryland flags will fly at half-staff from Nov. 12 to 16.

Gov. Martin O’Malley ordered the Maryland state flag lowered to half-staff Tuesday in memory of a fallen Cecil County firefighter who died this week.

"This is in honor of firefighter David R. Barr Jr., a 13 year veteran of the Perryville Community Fire Company, who died on Nov. 7, 2013, as a result of injuries suffered in the line of duty," the Office of the Secretary of State said in a prepared statement.

Capt. Barr was hit by a car on US Route 40 in Perryville, while directing traffic around a crash on Oct. 25. The fire police officer passed away Nov. 7 from his injuries.

O'Malley ordered the state flag flown at half mast through Saturday, Nov. 16.
