One Inning makes the difference; Renegades beat IronBirds 10-5

The Hudson Valley Renegades beat the Aberdeen IronBirds 10-5 on Tuesday night behind a 6-run inning in the 4th, a great start by LHP Chris Kirsch ( 6 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 8 K), and the bats of 3B Darryl George (2-4,  1 2B, 2 R, 2 RBI) and DH Ryan McChesney ( 4-5, 1 2B, 2 R, 3 RBI).

The IronBirds got off to a great start last night, scoring a run in both the 1st and 2nd inning, while starter David Richardson cruised through the first two frames, allowing nobody on base and registering 3 K's. Up 2-0 going into the 3rd, the IronBirds looked to be in early control of the ballgame.

The two run lead quickly dissolved after Richardson walked in a run and SS Jared Breen committed an error in the top of the 3rd inning, both of which happened with the bases loaded and led to the game being tied 2-2. And from there, It got ugly. The Renegades tagged David Richardson and the IronBirds for 6 runs on 5 hits and batted around the line-up in the top of the 4th. The onslaught was triggered by an RBI single by George and a two-run 2B by McChesney, and the Renegades would cross the plate 3 more times that inning, putting the score suddenly at 8-2. Janser Severino (2.2 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 5 K) and Harry Marino (2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 4 K) had very good performances out of the bullpen for the IronBirds and Hector Veloz hit a 3-run HR in the bottom of the 8th, but it wasn't enough to make up for the damage inflicted in the 4th inning and as a result, the IronBirds drop their first two games of the 2013 season and look for their first W of the 2013 season in the final game of the 2013 season opening series at Ripken Stadium tonight.

Here's a couple of notes on the IronBirds and Tuesday Night's game:

- The IronBirds look to avoid being swept by the Renegades tonight at 7:05 PM. RHP Luc Rennie will get the nod for the IronBirds, while RHP John Farrell gets the start for the Renegades.

-IronBirds manager Matt Merullo looks to notch his 1st career W as manager for the IronBirds.

- The IronBirds go on a six-game road trip after tonight. The first series is a 3-game set against the Brooklyn Cyclones, and the IronBirds wrap up to road trip with another 3-game set against the Staten Island Yankees.

- On a positive note, the IronBirds pitching staff (Richardson, Severino, and Marino) recorded 14 K's on Tuesday Night.

- After allowing the base runners David Richardson left on in the 4th to score, Janser Severino settled down and bounced back nicely, resulting in a great performance and effort out of the bullpen. The 21-year-old recorded 8 outs against the 10 batters he faced after Ariel Soriano's RBI Triple, while recording 5 K's in that span. Final stat line: 2.2 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 5 K

- LHP Harry Marino had an excellent IronBirds debut on Tuesday. After replacing a struggling Williams Louico ( Also making his Aberdeen debut), Marino pitched the last 2.1 Innings scoreless, allowing no hits and 2 walks while striking out 4.

- 3B Hector Veloz was the player of the game for the IronBirds, going 3 for 4 with a 3-run homer in the 8th. His HR was the 1st IronBirds HR of the young 2013 season.

- CF George Barber had a good game last night, hitting a lead-off 3B in the 1st inning and finishing the game 2-4 with 2 runs scored.

- SS Jared Breen and DH Connor Bierfeldt both recorded their first professional career hit last night! Congrats!

- 2B Jeff Kemp made another outstanding play on defense and recorded his first professional career RBI in the 2nd Inning last night!

- Also making their IronBirds debut: C Jack Graham ( Pinch Hitter) and C Tanner Murphy ( Pinch Hitter)

- Last night's attendance at Ripken Stadium was 4,546

That's it for now IronBirds Nation, and stay posted at IBN on the Aberdeen Patch later today for a game preview and tonight's Line-up's!!!!! Until then, take it easy Aberdeen, and I hope to see all of IronBirds Nation at Ripken Stadium tonight!!!!!
