as teams of 12- and 13-year-old baseball players from around the world meet for a week-long tournament.  The opening ceremonies kicked off the series, which officially began Saturday and concludes with a championship game Aug. 21.  Sixteen national and international teams paraded to Ripken Stadium and back to for their official introduction and welcome.  Players then participated in several skill competitions, and former Baltimore Oriole Brady Anderson made an appearance during the event's home run derby.
