Power Outage halts game in 5th; TBD on when game will resume

Tuesday night's game between the Aberdeen IronBirds (2-6) and the Staten Island Yankees (3-4) was halted in the bottom of the 5th inning due to a power outage at Richmond County Bank Ballpark last night, and there is still no set date on when the teams will finish the game, presumably the next time Aberdeen takes a road trip to Staten Island. Staten Island had the 8-4 lead and were coming up to bat in the bottom of the 5th before the power outage.

The IronBirds got off to a red-hot start by scoring four runs in the top of the 1st inning off of Yankees starter Rookie Davis (2.2 IP, 5 H, 4 R (2 Earned), 0 BB, 3 K's), with two runs coming off of RBI Double's from Kris Richards and Connor Bierfeldt, while scoring two more on a Manny Hernandez RBI single, and then Hernandez scored on an error by Yankees 3B Kale Sumner. The Yankees then exploded in the bottom of the 2nd, making it 4-2 off of an RBI single from RF Mikeson Oliberto and an RBI groundout from 1B Bubba Jones before DH Yeicok Calderon hit a Grand Slam to right field off of IronBirds starter Austin Urban (4 IP, 8 H, 8 R, 3 BB, 2 K's) to give Staten Island the 6-4 lead. Staten Island would extend the lead to 8-4 in the bottom of the 3rd inning off of RBI single's from Oliberto and Jones before the game was halted an inning and a half later due to the power outage, and leaving the final outcome to be decided on a later date.

Now, here's a couple of notes on last night's half-game:

- With his RBI double in the 1st, IronBirds 2B Kris Richards now has a 6-game hitting streak, and is now hitting .323 with 6 RBI's on the season in 8 games.

- IronBirda CF Anthony Vega also extended his hitting streak to 4 games after a single in the 3rd inning and is 6 for 15 (.400 avg) in his last 4 games. He is now hitting .300 with 1 HR and 1 RBI in 6 games to start the season.

- IronBirds LF Sam Kimmel also has a 4-game hitting streak with a lead-off single in the 1st inning last night, and is 5 for 17 (.294 avg) during the hitting streak.

- IronBirds RF Manny Hernandez went 2 for 3 with an RBI in last night's postponed game, resulting in his 1st multi-hit game of the season!

- The IronBirds pitching staff still leads the NYPL in K's (83) through 9 games even after last night's shortened game.

- The IronBirds return to Ripken Stadium tonight at 7:05 PM to take on the Brooklyn Cyclones (4-4) in the first game of a two-game series and the first game of a 5-game home stand for the IronBirds. LHP Stephen Brault (0-0, 3.60 ERA) will get the start for Aberdeen tonight, while the Cyclones will send RHP John Gant (1-0, 0.00 ERA) to the mound.

That's it for now IronBirds Nation! Be sure to stay posted at IBN later today for pre-game notes before tonight's game, and tonight's Line-up's will be posted as soon as they are available! Until later, take it easy IronBirds Nation!
