Q&A: Aberdeen Senior LaKeia Hayden

In an interview with Patch, LaKeia Hayden talks about planning for nursing school, rebounding from an injury and her outlook on the season.

Patch: What is your take on your team?

LaKeia Hayden: My take on my team as point guard and captain is to be a leader on my team and push myself as well as everyone else.

Patch: What are your thoughts on the first few games of the season?

LH: The first couple of games is everything. I feel as though it is a reflection of all of our practice. We have a lot to build on!

Patch: What do you expect this season?

LH: This year, I want to win everything! My last year I want to go out with a bang!

Patch: Whose game do you try to replicate?

LH: I really try to replicate Diana Taurasi. I've watched her since I was young, and I really like her style of play.

Patch: How do you train for game day?

LH: For game day, I keep my focus throughout the whole day and think about what I need to do for my team for that night.

Patch: Now that you’re a senior, what’s it like when you’re at school?

LH: Now that I'm a senior I only go to school every other day, and when I'm there I just try to enjoy everybody and my last year of high school and making the best of it.

Patch: What happened to your knee, and how are you dealing with it?

LH: After I tore my meniscus and partially tore my ACL over the summer, I had to work extra hard to be ready for my last season. I had a doctor's appointment on the 16th and the doctor will let me know something soon.

Patch: Do you play any other sports?

LH: I play volleyball and throw discus and shot put.

Patch: What’s your favorite subject in school?

LH: My all time favorite subject is science.

Patch: What do you intend to study at college?

LH: In college I plan to major in biology, but I'm getting my degree in nursing.

Patch: Do you want to play basketball in college?

LH: I do want to play basketball in college.

Patch: What schools have you been looking at?

LH: For college I've been looking into Salisbury, UMES, DeSales, as well as Towson.

Patch: What type of music do you listen to?

LH: I listen to all types of music. Nicki Minaj, Beyonce, Drake and Adele are my favorites.

Patch: What is your favorite movie?

LH: My favorite movie is the Wizard of Oz.

Patch: Do you drive?

LH: Yes I drive, and I drive an '03 Nissan Altima.

Patch: If you could get anything for Christmas, what would it be?

LH: If I could get one thing for Christmas it would be an iPhone.
