State Suspends Child Care Provider's License

Maryland's Department of Education has suspended the license of a day care provider accused of assaulting a child.

The Maryland State Department of Education temporarily suspended the child care license of Yvette A. Allen on Wednesday pending further investigation into allegations of child abuse at her Aberdeen day care.

“Her license has been suspended,” said William Reinhard, a spokesman for department. “She has 30 days to appeal. If she doesn't appeal in 30 days, then the suspension is permanent.”

Allen, 34, was arrested on Tuesday afternoon and charged with child abuse and second degree assault after it was alleged that she had attacked a child in her care on Monday. The child was admitted to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, where police responded to the allegation of child abuse at 11:50 p.m. and launched an official investigation that led to Allen's arrest the following afternoon.

“She's been a registered child care provider since 2001,” Reinhard said. Prior to her arrest, Allen ran a day care out of her moderately-sized home on Morning Dove Court. Aberdeen police have not released information about the child's injuries.

The Allen family was unavailable for comment.
