What Harford Deputies Will Be Watching Thanksgiving Weekend

Shopping centers and drunk drivers are on the watch list.

The Harford County Sheriff's Office said officers will be on their toes this week, and citizens should be too.

Starting Nov. 29, there will be high-visibility mobile and foot patrols around shopping centers, according to a statement from the sheriff's office.

“The holidays are a wonderful and joyous time of the year, and the hectic pace of the holidays creates opportunities for criminals to take advantage of our citizens,” Harford County Sheriff L. Jesse Bane said. “We want people to feel safe."

To that end, deputies will be conducting "random and frequent patrols" of shopping centers in the area, he said.

Bane said the sheriff’s office will also be conducting DUI saturation patrols.

“We know people want to celebrate the holidays with friends,” Bane said. “We just want them to celebrate responsibly and drive safely."

The legal blood alcohol limit in Maryland is .08. For those under 21 years of age, the blood alcohol threshold for a DUI charge is .02, according to the Motor Vehicle Administration.

To stay on the right side of the law, Bane advised identifying a designated driver before consuming alcohol.
