HAGERSTOWN, MD — A three-story home in Washington County was destroyed by a fire that started in the garage, causing $1.5 million in damage, the state fire marshal said.

The blaze was reported at 12:19 p.m. Sunday at 20045 Cool Hollow Road in Hagerstown by a resident. Three people were displaced by the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the state fire marshal's office.

Authorities said a smoke alarm was activated.

The Funkstown Volunteer Fire Company handled the two-alarm response, with 119 firefighters working for two hours to extinguish the fire.
