10 MD Kohl's Stores Opening Sephora Shops Inside Locations

MARYLAND — Last year, makeup retailer Sephora announced plans to put their boutiques as inside Kohl's department stores across the country.

That store within a store process is under way, with a Sephora that opened Friday in Severn, and another later this summer in Severna Park. Both shops will be within existing Kohl's clothing stores.

Each Sephora at Kohl's will span 2,500 square feet at the front of the store. This area will mimic a stand-alone Sephora, featuring a similar appearance and inventory.

Employees will offer beauty consultations to recommend skin, hair and fragrance products. Customers can test these items to see what best fits their style.

"We've always had the intention to keep the Sephora at Kohl's beauty assortment as relevant and similar to our freestanding Sephora stores as possible," said Artemis Patrick, Sephora's executive vice president and global chief merchandising officer. "We want every customer who comes to Sephora at Kohl's to be able to discover new brands and find their favorites, just like they do at our other Sephora stores."

Kohl's launched its partnership with Sephora last fall, opening 200 locations in the first batch. The clothing chain said this was successful, so it is adding more Sephora sites.

Kohl's is opening another 400 Sephoras across 36 states.

Along with the two in Anne Arundel County, another eight Sephora boutiques are coming to Maryland. Those shops will open in the Kohl's stores in:

• Timonium – Opened April 29
• Hagerstown – Opened May 13
• Ellicott City - Opened May 27
• Frederick - Opened May 27
• Severn - Opens June 10
• Germantown – Opens June 24
• Severna Park - Opens this summer
• Silver Spring – Opening this summer
• Bowie - Opening this summer
• Bel Air - Opening this summer

Kohl's stores in Maryland could soon be under new ownership, since the company entered into negotiations with Franchise Group, Inc., which proposed to buy the company for $60 per share.

That would value Kohl's at about $8 billion, CNBC said.

JCPenney's holding company offered to buy Kohl's for $68 per share earlier this year, The New York Post reported. If that deal had gone through, the two brands would have remained separate, but it likely would have ended the addition of Sephora stores to Kohl's stores.

"The quick and vast rollout of Sephora at Kohl's is a testament to how much we believe in this partnership and making prestige beauty more accessible to people everywhere."

There are 23 Kohl's locations in Maryland.
