2 Cats Die In $400K House Fire: State Fire Marshal

CHESTER, MD — A house fire in Queen Anne's County caused $400,000 and killed two family pets Sunday, the Maryland state fire marshal's office said.

The fire was reported shortly before 11 a.m. in a one-story home at 1330 Queen Anne Drive in Chester, a news release said.

A neighbor spotted the fire and called 911, authorities said. No fire alarms or sprinklers were reported in the house.

The fire caused $300,000 damage to the home, and $100,000 damage to the contents in it, the fire marshal said.

Two adults were displaced by the fire and are being helped by the American Red Cross.

Officials said two cats died in the fire.

The Kent Island Volunteer Fire Department responded to the call.

The origin and cause of the fire are under investigation.
