BALTIMORE, MD — The Maryland Attorney General's office has selected an experienced prosecutor to investigate police-involved deaths statewide, according to a press release sent Monday.
Dana Mulhauser will serve as chief of the Independent Investigations Unit in the Attorney General's office, according to the press release from AG Brian E. Frosh's office.
The Independent Investigations Unit is responsible for investigating alleged or potential police-involved deaths, and was established by the Maryland General Assembly this March under SB 600.

“I have devoted my career to investigating excessive-force cases because I believe that they are among the most crucial tests of our values and commitments to each other,” Mulhauser said in the release. “I am honored to join the effort to put Maryland’s new police reforms into practice, and I look forward to helping build a statewide system that will examine fatal incidents with rigor and impartiality.”
Mulhauser will begin her work in Maryland on August 18 of this year, according to the press release. In 2019, she became the founding chief of the Conviction and Incident Review Unit for the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office. Mulhauser has also worked for the Department of Justice, where she investigated hate crimes, police misconduct, and human trafficking cases across the nation.
