Alzheimer's Association Rally for Access in Washington, D.C.
Gaithersburg resident Murvell Delpino asks the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to reverse ruling on coverage of Alzheimer's drugs.

“We need more than hope. We need access to treatments. People who need these treatments have been denied this and THAT’S NOT RIGHT!” Maryland advocate Murvell Delpino takes the stage at the Rally for Access in D.C . at LaFayette Square in front of the White House in Washington, D.C. The protest was organized by the Alzheimer's Association and attended by advocates from across the U.S. attending the Association's Alzheimer's Impact Movement (AIM) forum.
In spite of FDA-approval for Aduhelm and Leqembi, CMS restricted use of Aduhelm to people enrolled in a clinical trial and denied coverage for Leqembi. The annual out-of-pocket cost of both drugs at $26,500 makes it inaccessible to those who need it most.
The Alzheimer's Association 2023 Alzheimer's Disease Facts and Figures report cites more than 6.7 million Americans living with Alzheimer's disease or another dementia with more than 110,000 living in Maryland.
