July 4 Hours In MD: Grocery And Hardware Stores, Banks, Malls

As the Fourth of July approaches, Patch has compiled a list of openings, closings and scheduled adjustments for residents across the state.

MARYLAND — Most major grocery, hardware and home improvement, big-box and national retail stores in Maryland will be open on the Fourth of July, but many will have reduced holiday hours. The big exception is Costco, which is closed for the holiday on Saturday.

Because July 4 falls on Saturday this year, banking hours may vary on Friday for the Independence Day observance. Customers should check their local bank branch before going. Banks that typically have Saturday hours won’t this year because of the holiday.

Grocery Stores

Trader Joe’s stores will close at 5 p.m. Saturday. Aldi stores are expected to operate limited holiday hours, but shoppers should check their local store for closing times.

Because grocery hours are often set store-by-store, especially at regional chains and independently operated locations, shoppers should check the store locator or call their local store before heading out. Here’s a look at what other stores have planned:

Albertsons and affiliated chains: Holiday hours may vary by banner and location. Its banners in Maryland include Safeway, ACME, and Balducci’s Food Lovers Market.

Kroger and affiliated chains: Shoppers should check their local store for Independence Day hours and department-specific schedules. Kroger-owned banners in the Old Line State include Harris Teeter.

These stores will also be open, although hours may vary by location:

Hardware, Home Improvement Stores

Open, but check local hours: Home Depot and Lowe’s are generally open on July 4, though some stores may operate on holiday or reduced hours.

Ace Hardware and True Value hours vary widely because many stores are independently owned.

Pharmacies

Open: CVS and Walgreens are also generally open, though pharmacy hours may be shorter than store hours.

Malls And Other Retailers

Most shopping malls are expected to be open Saturday, but hours may be shorter than usual. Mall-based stores may also follow landlord rules, local ordinances or their own holiday schedules.
