CALVERT COUNTY, MD — A 13-year-old boy was placed on probation Monday after being found guilty of raping two 6-year-old girls, according to reports.
State’s Attorney Robert Harvey told WJLA that the boy was ordered to home detention with an ankle monitor after the guilty verdict was issued in the Calvert County Circuit Court.
“If it were committed by an adult, it would have been a felony,” Harvey told the outlet. “It’s a rape by a 13-year-old juvenile offender of two 6-year-old girls. And how that could even happen is beyond my comprehension. But it did.”
Maryland law dictates that individuals under the age of 13 cannot be automatically charged as adults, making any cases being tried in the juvenile courts. Rulings are made with consideration of recommendations issued by the Department of Juvenile Sentences.
