When deputies arrived, they found a man with serious injuries consistent with an assault. He was taken to Meritus Medical Center for treatment and has since been released.

A preliminary investigation found the victim and suspect, later identified as 36-year-old Michael Anthony Faya of Walkersville, were traveling in separate cars when they both pulled into a parking area near the park. After getting out of their vehicles, the two became involved in an altercation.

During the confrontation, authorities said Faya pulled out a machete and slashed the victim's head and arm.

On Thursday, deputies executed a search warrant at a home in the 10700 block of Dublin Road, where Faya was taken into custody without incident. He was taken to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center and charged with first-degree assault.

The investigation is ongoing.
