Outshine Fruit Bars have been voluntarily recalled by their parent company after the FDA found shards of glass in the products.
The company that produces Outshine Fruit Bars, Dreyer's Grand Ice Cream, stated that the contamination is restricted to only certain Outshine bar flavors: strawberry, watermelon, grape, tangerine and black cherry.
The recall applies to the 6-packs of 2.5-ounce fruit bars, and the 24-count of 2.5-ounce bars.
Outshine bars have been distributed to supermarkets, grocers, and retailers across Maryland and nationwide.
"Dreyer's is taking this action out of an abundance of caution following consumer reports of glass found in the product," the FDA said in a statement. "No illnesses or injuries have been reported to date. Anyone concerned about an injury should contact a healthcare provider immediately. Consumers who have purchased the affected product should dispose of it or return it to their place of purchase for a full refund."
No other Outshine products are impacted, the FDA said.
It is not yet clear how the glass wound up inside the bars. An investigation is underway.
It's also not known if any consumers have been injured.
