Looking for an authentic dive bar experience? A national food publication says Maryland's best can be found in Baltimore.
The Takeout recently named Butt's & Betty's Tavern its pick for the best dive bar in Maryland as part of a roundup highlighting one standout dive bar in every state.
Also rated a best dive bar by Baltimore Magazine, Butt & Betty's has been around for more than 90 years.
"If the name doesn't lure you in, maybe the scratch-offs and Jell-O shots will," The Takeout wrote. "The staff and regulars are welcoming, and the drinks are strong and cheap."
The publication also praised the "fourth-generation, woman-owned hole-in-the-wall, which serves up mean drinks with love."
Located at 2200 Gough St., locals describe Butt's & Betty's as a classic, unpretentious neighborhood taproom known for friendly locals and a traditional local pub atmosphere.
The Takeout's annual roundup featured bars ranging from neighborhood taverns to live music venues, with one selection representing each state.
