Severe Storms To Lash MD With Damaging Winds, Heavy Rain: See Latest Alerts

The majority of Maryland is under a severe thunderstorm watch as incoming storm cells are capable of downing trees and electrical lines.

Maryland residents are under several weather alerts Wednesday as multiple rounds of severe thunderstorms are forecast for the region.

A majority of the Old Line State is under a severe thunderstorm watch until 5 p.m. As of 12:40 p.m., several counties had already been placed under severe thunderstorm warnings.

Officials say severe thunderstorms could produce damaging winds, possibly downing trees and power lines, and injuring anyone outdoors. Wind gusts were detected at 60 mph.

Storm Timeline

The latest forecast indicates that isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected to impact the region between noon and 5 p.m., with a chance of scattered storms into the evening.

Additional rounds of storms are likely to hit Maryland overnight after 1 a.m.

As previously reported, the chance for storms sticks around in Maryland through the remainder of the week.

On Thursday, as heat index values are expected to top 105 degrees, storms could develop between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., and then again after 7 p.m.

Wednesday Afternoon: Isolated showers and thunderstorms before 2 p.m., then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., then scattered showers and thunderstorms after 5 p.m. Some of the storms could be severe. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 84. East wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Wednesday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 73. Southeast wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Thursday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms between 3 p.m and 5 p.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 94. Heat index values as high as 105. Light and variable wind becoming west 5 to 7 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Thursday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 7 p.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 76. Light southwest wind. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Friday: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2 p.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 93. Northwest wind 3 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Friday Night: Showers and thunderstorms likely before 11 p.m, then a chance of showers between 11 p.m and 2 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 71. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
