Parents choosing where to live in Maryland often look first at the quality of the local school district.
The best school district in Maryland is Worcester County Public Schools, according to the 2027 Best School Districts in America list recently released by the education ranking service Niche.
The top-rated district received an "A" as its overall grade. It was handed an "A-" for just two categories: College prep and food.
"I have appreciated the supportive teachers and the variety of extracurricular activities that have allowed me to explore my interests and develop new skills. The best part of my experience has been the sense of community and the opportunities for personal growth," reads one review submitted by a student.
"However, I have also faced some challenges, such as inconsistent resources in certain schools and a need for more individualized support for students with diverse learning needs. Moving forward, I would like to see improvements in resource allocation, more mental health support, and increased efforts to address the unique needs of all students to ensure a more equitable and enriching educational environment."

Niche also released its best public schools and best private schools rankings.
Niche's rankings combine federal and state data, school statistics, and over 3 million reviews from students, parents, and teachers to evaluate schools beyond test scores.

This year, Niche updated its methodology and created separate public and private rankings for categories including arts, diversity, college prep and teachers. It also introduced school-type-specific methodologies for boarding schools and private online high schools.
"Families deserve a complete view of their options, whether they're evaluating schools in their area or exploring what's available elsewhere," Niche founder and CEO Luke Skurman said in a news release.
