Residents across the state were treated to an early morning surprise on Tuesday as a space jellyfish appeared over Maryland skies.

Caused by sunlight reflecting off high-altitude rocket plumes, the jellyfish's appearance was the result of the latest SpaceX launch.

The Falcon 9 Rocket took off from Florida's Cape Canaveral shortly after 6:30 a.m., on a trajectory path toward the International Space Station.

Clear morning skies and a sunrise that held off until just after 7 a.m. allowed residents to spot the phenomenon in the Maryland region.

Tuesday's launch was transporting more than three tons of supplies to the ISS. It's expected to arrive by Thursday.
