WALDORF, MD — A 41-year-old Waldorf man was fatally shot by a private security guard after stabbing another man during an altercation inside a Waldorf bar early Saturday morning, according to the Charles County Sheriff's Office.
William Pierre Strong, 41, died after being shot once in the chest at The Cut Bar & Restaurant, located at 2570 Business Park Court, authorities said.
Deputies responded to the establishment around 1:46 a.m. for reports of a stabbing and shooting.
According to the preliminary investigation, two men reportedly got into an altercation inside the bar. Police said Strong pulled out a knife and threatened the other man.
A private security guard assigned to the business attempted to intervene and gain control of Strong's hand and the knife, authorities said.
During the confrontation, Strong stabbed the other man once in the abdomen. As Strong appeared to attempt another stabbing, the security guard fired his gun, striking Strong once in the chest, according to investigators.
Strong walked outside the establishment before collapsing in the parking lot.
Responding deputies found him with the knife still in his hand. Deputies and emergency medical personnel attempted to save his life, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man who suffered the stab wound was treated for injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening.
Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting and will present the case to the Charles County State's Attorney's Office for review.
Authorities have not announced any charges.
