Eat Local: Maryland Farmers Market Guide 2022

MARYLAND — Farmers markets are in full swing across Maryland, bringing shoppers together with their rural neighbors and producers. With summer officially starting in a few weeks, most weekly markets are open, or will be soon.

The Maryland Department of Agriculture said the COVID-19 outbreak has highlighted how vital farmers markets are to communities and the agricultural industry. Farmers markets provide consumer access to local produce and fresh food, as well as providing a marketplace for Illinois farmers and specialty crop growers, according to the IDOA.

While COVID-19 restrictions have eased compared to the last few years, most markets have specific pandemic rules in place and are taking precautions to ensure the safety of market-goers. The Centers for Disease Control says outdoor farmers markets are a "lower risk shopping option" that benefits both shoppers and the community.
