Injured Mountain Biker, Stranded For Hours, Rescued On Remote Maryland Trail
The 56-year-old biker was stranded for 8 hours while cycling on Meadow Mountain Trail in Garrett County, state police said.
GRANTSVILLE, MD — An injured mountain biker stranded on a remote Maryland trail for nearly eight hours was rescued by a state police helicopter crew Wednesday, according to authorities.
Shortly before 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, members of the Garrett County and Grantsville Volunteer fire departments found an injured mountain biker on a remote trail in New Germany State Park in Garrett County, state police said.
According to authorities, the 56-year-old biker was injured while cycling on Meadow Mountain Trail, a 14-mile trail that stretches through New Germany State Park and the Savage River State Forest. The biker told rescuers he was stranded in the woods for nearly eight hours following the accident, state police said.

Due to the biker's location and the nature of his injuries, state police said crews with Garrett County and Maryland State Police launched an aerial rescue mission. Once overhead, crews used a helicopter hoist to lower a trooper and flight paramedic into a clearing near the injured biker, authorities said.
Once lifted into the helicopter, state police said the biker was flown to J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia, for treatment.

State police did not provide an update on the man's condition.
