Inmate Killed At Maryland Prison, State Police Say

Police said another inmate was identified as a suspect in the death at the Western Correctional Institution in Allegany County.

CUMBERLAND, MD — An inmate serving a sentence at the Western Correctional Institution in Allegany County was found dead in his cell Monday, according to Maryland State Police. Another inmate is suspected of killing the man, police said.

State police were called to the facility around noon Monday after receiving a call from investigators with the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services about an inmate's death.

According to police, investigators found 34-year-old Moise Louis in his cell suffering from multiple injuries. Authorities did not release details about the nature of his injuries.

Police said Louis was pronounced dead by first responders.

According to police, another male inmate was identified as a suspect. Police, who did not release the suspect's name, said he is being held at another Division of Correction facility.

The suspect has not yet been charged, authorities said.

State police are investigating the man's death. Once the investigation is complete, it will be turned over to the Allegany County state's attorney, who will determine whether charges will be filed.
