CHARLES COUNTY, MD — A Maryland man could arguably be called the epitome of luck after officials said he recently won a state lottery game for the third time in less than a year using the same numbers.

The 52-year-old truck driver from Charles County identified only as "Big Winner" won $50,000 after purchasing a Pick 5 ticket from Big Mouth Beer, Wine, and Liquor in Waldorf.

Lottery officials said the man claimed his third prize after winning the April 13 midday drawing.

Officials said the man placed a $1 straight bet on the number 48548, the same bet and number that earned him $100,000 on two tickets he purchased in a drawing last May.

"It hit last year, and it hit again," the man told lottery officials. "My wife said, 'Let's play this number,' and we keep winning with it."

Does "Big Winner" plan to retire the number following his third win? Not likely, he told officials.

"I play the lottery all the time," he said in a news release. "You never know. You can't win if you are not in it."
