MD Coronavirus Cases Rise After 'Deadliest 48 Hours'
Nearly 400 people have died in Maryland from the new coronavirus, after what Gov. Larry Hogan called the state's "deadliest 48 hours."

MARYLAND — In the past day, 754 cases of the new coronavirus have been confirmed in Maryland, state health officials said Thursday morning. Now there are 10,784 confirmed cases statewide of COVID-19, the respiratory disease caused by the virus.
The state's death toll from the virus is 392, an increase of 43 people since Wednesday.
An additional 67 Marylanders are categorized as "probable deaths," since lab tests are required to verify they had the virus but their death certificates list COVID-19 as a cause of death. That is an increase of three since Wednesday.

To slow the transmission of the virus, face coverings will be required in retail establishments and on public transportation starting at 7 a.m. Saturday in Maryland, Hogan said. Face coverings are defined as items that obscure a person’s nose and mouth, including scarves and bandanas. Those who are younger than 9 years old will not be required to wear them in retail environments.
