Small Plane Crashes In MD, Pilot Killed: Report

A small airplane crashed Saturday morning in the Hollywood area of St. Mary's County, killing the pilot, authorities said.

HOLLYWOOD, MD — A small airplane crashed Saturday morning in the Hollywood area of St. Mary's County, the local sheriff's office said on social media.

The plane went down in a wooded area just after 9 a.m., the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office said. The department received multiple 911 calls reporting a possible airplane crash.

First responders located the aircraft about 10:20 a.m. in the Dorsey Park area. WTOP reported the pilot was killed; the pilot's name has not yet been released and there was no one else on board.

The Federal Aviation Administration told WTOP the aircraft that crashed was a Sonex ultralight.

The FAA said the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the cause of the crash.
