Woman Rescued By MD Police After Car Plunges Off Cliff

State police said the 19-year-old was trapped in her car after it rolled down a 70-foot embankment above the Cacapon River.

GREAT CACAPON, WV — A 19-year-old woman was rescued by Maryland State Police this week after her car plunged off a cliff near the West Virginia-Maryland border.

According to state police, the woman was trapped inside her car after it went off the road and rolled down a 70-foot embankment above the Cacapon River. The crash happened shortly after 7:35 p.m. on Power House Road in Morgan County, West Virginia.

State police said the woman was extricated from the car and, due to the steep terrain and severity of her injuries, put her in an inflatable raft and navigated downstream for an air rescue.

Police said a trooper and paramedic were lowered 130 feet from a helicopter and secured the woman before hoisting her into the helicopter.

The woman was flown to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore for treatment. Her current condition is unknown.
